Vyhniansky travertín
Description of the attraction
Are you among the admirers of unique natural beauty? Then you should not miss the Vyhnian Travertine on your travels through Slovakia. The Vyhnian travertine natural monument is located in the picturesque village of Vyhne, approximately 10 km from Banská Štiavnica. This name hides a travertine column about 3.5 meters high by a waterfall. Vyhnia travertine was created by the deposition of travertine limestone from strongly calcareous water that flowed from the mining tunnel. Locals also call Vyhnian travertine Vyhnian mammoth. This karst formation is alive and constantly growing. If you look at it from a distance, its shape really resembles a mammoth. You can combine a visit to this place with a rest by the water. In its vicinity — only about 100 meters away — is the Vodný raj Vyhne thermal swimming pool. Vyhnia travertine may not be easy to find. It is located between the tennis courts. For this reason, you can't get too close to it, you can admire it from a distance of about 30 m. Vyhnian travertine is also the first stop of the educational trail of Andrej Kmeť, which will also take you to other places in this attractive tourist and recreational area.
