Description of the attraction

Veľký Rozsutec (1,610 m above sea level) is a mountain in the northeastern part of the main ridge of Krivánská Mala Fatra. Its impressive height and form dominates the entire surroundings. It is therefore also often considered the most beautiful mountain in Slovakia. Legend says that Jánošík's golden treasure is hidden in the vicinity of the peak. Although today it is no longer an attraction for which tourists visit, it does not change anything in its popularity among visitors. One of the routes to Veľký Rozsutec leads from Terchová through the charming Jánošík holes. Also wanted is a circular route from Štefanová via Podžiar with a length of 10 km. Even with the return to Štefanová, it will take you approximately 5 hours. The ascent to Veľký Rozsutec is one of the more challenging. In addition to conquering diverse and rugged terrain, you will also have to climb steeply and overcome large differences in height. Therefore, only more experienced tourists should go on the trip. After overcoming all the difficulties, you will see an incredibly beautiful circular view at the top. You will see the ends of Malý Rozsutec, Stoha, Pilsko and other surrounding hills, which are separated by deep valleys. Veľký Rozsutec is also an important locality in which rare and rare species of flora and fauna occur. This is also why it is the center of the Rozsutec National Nature Reserve. Plan your trip outside of the period from March 1 to June 15, when the trail is closed for nature protection reasons.
