The Javorníky Mountains are located near the Slovak-Czech border. The highest peak of this well-known and popular place among tourists is Veľký Javorník. Veľký Javorník will win you over with its picturesque, natural nooks and crannies on your first visit. Undemanding ascent routes will please even less fit tourists. Lovers of mountain biking will also enjoy themselves here. On its northeastern slope you will find the oldest nature reserve in Kysucie — Veľký Javorník. The reservation protects rare forest communities of primeval character. From the top of the hill, you will have beautiful views of the surroundings. In good weather, you can see as far as the Western Tatras. You can also take a pleasant rest here and recharge your energy for the journey back or to other admirable places in the mountain range. Veľký Javorník also offers winter and summer sports activities. Below its peak is the Makov Kasárne resort with year-round operation. In addition to sports and unforgettable experiences, you can relax here in the silence of nature. Several hiking trails lead to Veľký Javorník. You can go there from the Slovak and Czech sides of the mountain range. The most frequent starting points for hikes are the nearest villages Papradno – Podjavorník (about 5 km) and Makov.
