Ľupčiansky skalný hríb
Description of the attraction
The beauties of Slovak nature captivate with unique creations, including the Ľupčian rock mushroom. You can find this wonderful natural phenomenon under the hillside in the village of Ľupča. Ľupčian rock mushroom is a popular stop for hiking enthusiasts. Due to its unique appearance, it was declared a protected natural monument. Rock mushroom was created by wind weathering of settled rocks. Here, softer layers of sandstone alternate with harder layers of carbonate conglomerates. If you want to go to this natural monument, the Ľupčian rock mushroom, called Kozák in the past, is easy to find. It rises above the left bank of the Ľupčica stream. It is enough to walk behind the houses on the slope of Stráne, approximately 2 km from the railway station. Although the location is easily accessible, there is no marked hiking trail. When you are near the mushroom, pay attention to its surroundings. In the sandy deposits, you can observe fossilized shells of sea molluscs.
