Description of the attraction

In Slovakia, the most important salt deposit is the Solivar location, which is now part of the city of Prešov. In the past, rock salt was mined and brine pumped at this location in the Leopold shaft. Today, as a reminder of these glorious times, you can view the technical monument Solivar in Prešov, whose origin is the 17th century. You can go on a tour of the area with a guide. Its complex is managed by the Slovak Technical Museum. NKP Solivar in Prešov is one of the most important and most visited technical monuments in Slovakia. The historical area will take you through memories of the times when salt was mined in this place. If you want to learn a lot of interesting information, don't forget to visit the Varne František building. In this building, which belongs to the complex of technical monuments of the museum, in 2001 the exposition History of salt mining and production in Solivara was opened. The architecturally impressive Salt Warehouse is a place you should definitely not miss in NKP Solivar in Prešov. Salt was stored in the warehouse for centuries. It also served as a handling and distribution site. Today, the building houses a new multifunctional social and artistic space. It hosts exhibitions, presentations, congresses and educational activities. NKP Solivar in Prešov allows you to see other technical objects in addition to the renovated salt warehouse: - LEOPOLD GÁPEĽ SHAFT — a pit with a depth of 155 m. Above the pit, in 1674, a gable building with a towing device was built, which was one of the largest in Central Europe. - ČETERNE — reservoirs for brine. - MASHINHAUS - VARŇA - KLOPAČKA — its task was to notify employees of the start of working hours or other extraordinary events .
