Description of the attraction

Slanecký Castle was built in the Gothic style in the 13th century. After turbulent events during the second half of the 15th century, when fraternal groups were active in eastern Slovakia, the castle was significantly damaged. In 1490, its owner at the time, Ladislav Lossonczy, was forced to invest heavily in its repair. Slanecký Castle was destroyed again in 1679. One three-story tower and several walls have been preserved from the castle, you can also admire the window Gothic arch. In 1815, Jozef Forgách reconstructed the central castle tower for the purpose of establishing a family museum. World War II caused further damage to the castle. The castle tower gradually began to deteriorate, in 1945 it completely burned down. After the fire, it was possible to restore its wooden roof, which served for several more decades. At the beginning of the 21st century, the old roof gradually fell apart due to weather conditions. You can go to Slaneck Castle from the village of Slanec. Well-marked hiking trails will take you to the ruins. The road is only approximately 800 m long.
