Sitniansky hrad
Description of the attraction
Sitno Castle was built in the 13th century on the andesite cliffs of the hill of the same name. Today, you can only find the ruins of what used to be a massive, medieval castle. In the past, the fortification surrounded the entire summit plateau. Sitno Castle had an excellent strategic location. It was protected from the north and south by steep, inaccessible rocks. Until now, only the ruins have been preserved, which are gradually being overgrown by the surrounding nature. Here you can see the remains of masonry and foundations. You will walk along a rock-hewn staircase and a moat. Behind it are partially reconstructed parts of the barbican and a cistern. If you want to go to Sitno Castle, we recommend that you combine the hike with the ascent to the top of Sitno. You can choose from several routes. The shortest, with a length of only 3.5 km, which is also the steepest, leads from the Počúvadlian lake. If you want to go to Sitnia Castle on a less demanding trail, you can start from Banská Štiavnica by following the green sign. The road is approximately 10 km long. You can also choose other marked trails from the surrounding villages.
