Among the architectural gems of Spišská Nová Ves, the art nouveau building, which was built between 1899 and 1902, rightly ranks. It is the redoubt building, for which we owe the architect Kálmán Gerster. In addition to the theater, the three-story building also houses a hotel, a concert hall and a cafe. The redoubt building in Spišská Nová Ves impresses with its rich exterior and interior decoration. In front of the main entrance is a portico on two columns with Ionic capitals. The architect planned the location of the ceremonial concert hall exactly in the middle of the building. The decoration will also catch your attention with the large coat of arms of the city and the swan as a symbol of singing and poetry. The theater premises are located on the ground floor, supplemented by two rows of balconies. This part of the building will also delight you with its decoration, which consists of an eye-catching wall painting by Jozef Hanula, a painter from Spišskonovo. From it you can admire the High Tatras and the lower Tatra landscape. The redoubt today serves as the seat of the Spiš Theater, there is a restaurant, a cafe and the Municipal Cultural Center. It also serves as the headquarters of the local Television Reduta. In the concert hall, visitors can listen to classical music and other chamber concerts.
