Ochtinská aragonitová jaskyňa
Description of the attraction
The Ochtinská aragonite cave is unique both in Slovakia and worldwide. It is located in the Revúcká vrchovina between Jelšava and Štítnik. This magical cave is one of three publicly accessible aragonite caves in the world. The other two can be visited by tourists in Mexico and Argentina. Ochtinská aragonite cave was discovered by chance in 1954, when a geological survey tunnel was dug. It is 300 meters long, while 230 meters are accessible to visitors. During your visit, you will be enchanted by the formations created from three generations of aragonite. The beautiful shapes resemble the view of the bright stars of our galaxy. The extraordinary rarity of the cave and its aragonite decoration led to its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Ochtin aragonite cave can be visited by car. The parking lot is located approximately 300 meters from its entrance. If you want to treat yourself to some movement in the fresh air, you can go there along marked cycle routes or hiking trails. Another 104 steps await you in the cave's access gallery. Then you will be able to fully indulge in the admiration of the world full of aragonite jewels.
