Nový zámok v Banskej Štiavnici
Description of the attraction
The dominant feature of the city of Banská Štiavnica, the Nový zámok, can be seen from afar. The white Renaissance fortress stands proudly on Frauenberg (Maiden's Hill) above the city. In the past, Nový zámok was part of the fortification of Hungary against the Turks. It was built in the 16th century and its peculiarity was the so-called "living hours". They announced the time to local residents. They announced the quarter hours by blowing the horn, and the full hour by ringing the bell. The new castle today serves as a museum. Here you will see the exposition dedicated to the anti-Turkish struggle in Slovakia.
