Vrch Sitno
Description of the attraction
The Štiavnické vrchy volcanic mountain range hides many beautiful places. One of them is also the 1,000-thousandth hill Sitno, the peak of which is climbed by many tourists every year. You can recognize it from a distance — a radio and television transmitter can be seen from the top. Hiking enthusiasts like to go to Mount Sitno, this trip is also suitable for families with children. The route is not difficult, you should be able to climb it in less than 3 hours. During the ascent or descent, do not forget to see the ruins of the Sitno castle, which is located below the peak. Sitno Castle will tell you something about historical events from the time when it was besieged by the Turks. It is interesting that the remains of a prehistoric settlement were discovered on the top of Sitno. This is the reason why this hill is shrouded in various legends. The highest peak of the Štiavnické hills, Sitno, also offers a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. In the months of May to September, a wooden lookout tower is in operation, which is also an information center. When you admire the enchanting views, you can relax at the A. Kmeťa cottage. Before the return trip, you can eat and have refreshments here. There are more ascent routes to Mount Sitno. The shortest, at the same time the steepest, leads from Počúvadlianske lake. If you want to choose a less steep path, follow the green sign from Banská Štiavnica.
