The Liptovská Mara waterworks was completed in 1975. It is located in a beautiful valley near Liptovský Mikuláš and is considered the largest water reservoir in Slovakia due to its volume. That is why the locals also call it Liptovské more. During the construction of the work, 13 villages were flooded, according to one of them, Liptovská Mara also got its name. Liptovská Mara also attracts with its clean water. It is a fisherman's paradise, and in the summer you can enjoy water sports such as boating, surfing and pedal boating. Fans of more extreme water sports will also get their money's worth. The reservoir is a popular place for summer swimming. There is also a recreation center near Liptovský Trnovec. You can enjoy your stay by the water here on the well-maintained beach, the camp also has a playground for children. The Liptovská Mara water reservoir is a place where you will certainly not be bored. History lovers can visit the Havránok open-air museum, there are also plenty of opportunities for cycling.
