Description of the attraction

On Zámčisko hill above the village of Kapušany lies the ruins of the Kapušianske castle. Kapušian Castle was built in the 13th century as a protective castle of the royal road that led from Prešov to Bardejov. Its first owner was the Maglód family. For the longest time, the Kapušian castle was owned by its last owners — the Kapy family. The rich history of the castle was ended by the Hungarian Diet, which in 1715 decided to destroy it by burning it down. Its owner at the time, Eva Gergelakyová, had to carry out the order so that it would not become the center of the anti-Habsburg uprising. The ruins of the Kapušianske Castle can be accessed from the village of Kapušany. The route starts at the railway station, where you will look for a green tourist sign. Follow the sign and cross the river Sekčov to the end of the village. The steep ascent up to the Kapušian Castle begins at the last houses. The ruins of the Kapušian Castle are definitely worth a visit. In addition to the ruins, you will be able to admire the beautiful views of the Slanské vrchy. Through the valley of Sekčov you can see as far as Prešov and the Ondavská vrchovina. The ruins of the Kapušianske castle have been undergoing reconstruction in recent years. Its gradually improved area offers the opportunity to visit the already built observation tower. You will also find an information center here.
