Historický vlak vo Vígľaši
Description of the attraction
The village of Víľaš in the picturesque valley of the Slatina river in the Zvolen basin is located about 14 km east of Zvolen. Its dominant feature is the reconstructed Vígľa Castle, which rises directly above the road on the right bank of the river. Among the attractions of the village is the Víľaš Forest Railway. The Víľaš Forest Railway towards Poľana was built between 1904 and 1906, when the first section from Víľaš to the Očov sawmill was put into operation. In 1907, specifically on 23 November 1907, the section from Očová to Kyslinie was also completed. The total length of the railway line was 26 km. The Víľaš Forest Railway continued to operate after the Second World War until October 1, 1975. From that date, it was officially canceled by the management of the forest plant at the time. The tracks were gradually dismantled and the auxiliary equipment was abolished. The Department of Culture of the District National Committee, however, decided to keep several meters of tracks, steam locomotive U175 48, four covered wagons, a platform wagon and a passenger wagon as a memorial. This decision led to the fact that even today visitors to Vígľaš can admire them on the eastern edge of the village under the castle. The former route of the railway is now copied by forest roads.
