Description of the attraction

The mining town of Banská Štiavnica is closely connected with the mining of mineral wealth, precious and non-ferrous metals. In the past, it was one of the free cities. During your visit, you can also view one of the tunnels in which mining was actively carried out. It is the Glanzenberg tunnel. The Glanzenberg mine played an important role in the beginnings of gold-silver ore mining on the Špitaler vein and below Glanzenberg. The oldest written mention of it dates from 1560. The Glanzenberg tunnel is fully preserved, 500 m at a depth of 32 m is currently open to the public. The tour ends at the Kaufhaus shaft, in which the so-called imperial stairs. They were made in stone and connect it with the Upper Holy Trinity tunnel. This place has a rich history. In 1751, František Štefan Lotrinský also visited the gallery. His visit is commemorated by a built-in commemorative plaque in the side wall. Other commemorative plaques in honor of important monarchs were gradually added to it. The last of them was Emperor Francis Joseph I. The entrance to the Glanzenberg tunnel is located at an altitude of 560 meters on Kammerhofská street near the Kachelman guesthouse. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. Visitors pick up their coat, helmet and flashlight before entering.
