Demänovská ľadová jaskyňa
Description of the attraction
Enchanting beauty created from ice awaits you in the premises of the famous Demänovská ice cave. Even during the greatest heat, an ice kingdom is hidden here under the earth's surface, which is visited by many tourists every year. Demänovská cave is located in the Low Tatras at the beginning of the Demänovská valley at a distance of only 9 km from Liptovské Mikuláš. Demänovská ice cave was discovered already in the Middle Ages. It was made available to visitors only in the eighties of the 19th century. It is part of the world-famous Demänovské caves and is the second largest cave of its kind in Slovakia. (The first in size belongs to the Dobšinská ice cave.) On four floors with a total length of almost 2.5 km, your attention will be drawn by its frosty beauty created by the captivating ice filling of the spaces. Bizarre and massive shapes are created from the ice here, and you can also observe rare cave fauna. An 850 m circuit is open to visitors. A walk through the cave takes 45 minutes, which will bring you an extraordinary experience. Demänovská ice cave is accessible by car. The parking lot is located below the entrance to the cave, to which you will have to overcome a short ascent along a serpentine path to an altitude of 840 m. The entrance to the cave is located in the Bašta cliff. After entering the underground, visitors descend to the lower floors.
