The spa town of Bojnice is famous in Slovakia for its beautiful historical building - Bojnický Castle. This charming castle is rightly considered to be the most romantic castle in Slovakia and is one of our most beautiful monuments. Bojnice Castle is visited by tourists from all over the world every year. It is because of its fascinating history, no less beautiful architecture and charming romantic environment. Bojnice Castle was built in the 11th century as a Gothic castle. During its rich history it had many owners. Among the minis were well-known figures of our history, such as the Hungarian magnate Matúš Čák Trenčiansky, Matej Korvín and the Thurzovci. In the 17th century, Bojnický castle became the property of the Pálffys, who rebuilt the Gothic-Renaissance castle into the present representative castle. The rebuilding was completed in 1909. Bojnice Castle is shrouded in many superstitions. The most famous of them is connected with its last owner — Ján Pálffy and his unhappy love for the French countess de Jeanville. A natural travertine cave in which there are two lakes gives it a mysterious character. In the past, it was used as a shelter and a reservoir of drinking water. Not only the interior of the castle, but also its exterior is charming. Bojnice Castle is surrounded by a beautiful park with many rare trees. For all of them, we mention the Linden tree of King Matej and the Ginkgo biloba tree. Bojnice Castle can also be viewed with an expert explanation about its history during one of the daytime or evening tours. Their length is 90 minutes. Many events are held there throughout the year. The most popular are Valentine's Day at the castle, Night of the Haunted, International Children's Day at the castle, Santa Claus and Christmas at the castle, and the theater festival Fairytale Castle.
