Description of the attraction

St. Elizabeth's Cathedral is a dominant feature of the eastern metropolis of Slovakia, Košice. You can find it on the main square and it is a national cultural monument. In addition to the cathedral, the extensive campus includes the Gothic chapel of St. Michael from the end of the 14th century and Urban's tower. The House of St. Elizabeth is the largest temple and at the same time the most important work from the Gothic period in our country. It also has the status of the easternmost building monument of its kind on a European scale. Since its inception, it has undergone several construction modifications, so when you visit you can view monuments from different periods. Even before entering, you will be attracted by the richly decorated exterior facade. However, the spacious interior is particularly impressive. The main altar of St. Elizabeth, which was built between 1474 and 1477. It consists of two pairs of movable wings, each with Gothic panel paintings. Together they create a set of 48 scenes. Rákoczi's crypt with four sarcophagi, which has preserved the original medieval early Gothic style, also has its charm and is freely accessible to tourists. The north tower of the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth, called Žigmund's tower, offers visitors the possibility of a panoramic view of the city.
