Pajštún

Description of the attraction

Pajštún Castle was one of the border castles that, since the 13th century, played an important role in the protection of the northwestern borders of the Hungarian state in the Lesser Carpathians. Its origins date back to the second half of the 13th century. Pajštún castle is now only a ruin, from which fragments of the main buildings around the central courtyard have been preserved. Today, its area is covered by an embankment made of damaged masonry. The most preserved is the perimeter masonry of the palaces and fortifications, which were built on the massif of the castle rampart. During your trip to Pajštún castle, you can also view them with preserved openings. They once had windows and bay windows with relieving arches. You can also admire traces of vaults. The castle is led by hiking trails from Borinka, Stupava or Bratislava-Rače. The fastest access is up a steep hill of 1.5 km marked route from Borinka.
