Hrad Vršatec
Description of the attraction
You will notice the Vrsat ramparts from afar. This massive limestone massif rises above the village of Vršatské Podhradie. During your visit, you can admire the ruins of Vršatec Castle in its stone turrets and walls. Vršatec Castle is one of our highest castles. The place is surrounded by inaccessible limestone rocks. Thanks to them, it is a typical representative of impregnable medieval castles. It was built as a guard castle, which was part of a network to protect the northwestern borders of Hungary. During its rich history, it passed through the hands of several owners. A bakery, a mill and a brewery were also part of its premises. Vršatec Castle was destroyed in the period after the Rákoci Uprising. You can reach the ruins of Vršatec Castle from the village of Vršatské Podhradie. The road is only about 200 m long. The Vrsat ramparts are also a place where several hiking trails cross. A 6 km long educational trail also passes here. From the castle ruins and other places in Vršatské Braly, you will have charming views of the Central Coast.
