In the east of Slovakia, the Vihorlat Museum in Humenno is a place that every history lover should visit. It is located in the building of a Renaissance mansion from the 17th century, which was built on the site of a medieval water castle. The mansion is a national cultural monument and a historical landmark of the city center. Its surroundings are also interesting, consisting of a landscaped park built in the 19th century. Today it houses an exposition of folk architecture. The Vihorlat Museum opened its doors in 1960. In 2002, the Prešov Autonomous Region became its operator. There are more than one hundred thousand pieces of objects in the collection funds of the museum. Among them you will find valuable finds of coins from the time of the settlement of the territory by the Celts and a mass find of coins from the 17th century. Unique antique weapons, armor and beautiful baroque icons are worth mentioning. The Vihorlat Museum currently has four permanent exhibitions. In addition, it prepares a varied range of exhibitions and events every year. Museum expositions: - Art-historical exposition — will give you an insight into the culture of the nobility from the Renaissance to the 20th century. - Natural history exposition — you will get many interesting insights about the state of the surrounding nature and the state of our environment. - Sacred art exposition with the Chapel of the Virgin Márie — in this exhibition you can admire sacred works of art from the 18th and 19th centuries. - Exhibition of folk architecture and housing — a tour of typical buildings of folk architecture, one sacred building is also part of it: the wooden church of St. Michael the Archangel.
