Description of the attraction

Did you know that the largest reservoir of drinking water in all of Central Europe is located in the easternmost tip of Slovakia? It is the Starina Water Reservoir. The water reservoir was built on the upper reaches of the Cirocha River in the Bukovské hills, on the territory of the Poloniny National Park. The Starina water reservoir supplies most of eastern Slovakia with drinking water. Water flows from here to Košice through a 130-kilometer pipeline. It was built between 1983 and 1988, while up to seven villages had to be evicted before its construction. The Starina water reservoir is an important source of drinking water, therefore swimming is strictly prohibited here. You can't even engage in water sports or fishing. It is not allowed to camp in its immediate vicinity or approach the banks of the water reservoir. However, there is much to admire on a trip through the site. You can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the surface of the reservoir and its surroundings after climbing a few steps from the nearby Viewpoint. You can find it in its southern part. You can reach the site of the reservoir by car, there are also marked cycle routes.
