Veľký Sokol Gorge |

Description of the attraction

One of the spectacular places in the Slovak Paradise National Park is the Veľký Sokol gorge. You will find it in its central part. Tiesňava Veľký Sokol is located on the western edge of the Glac plain. Its crossing is an amazing tourist experience that will test your physical abilities. With a length of almost 6 km, a lot of waterfalls and cascades, it represents a rather challenging terrain. In winter, the gorge is rich in beautifully frozen icefalls. The rocky walls of the gorge rise to a height of 300 meters and line its bottom on both sides. On your way, you will have to pass through several exposed sections secured by ladders, chains, risers and bridges. When crossing, it is necessary to be careful and pay full attention to every movement. The starting point for the journey to the Veľký Sokol gorge is the tourist center Podlesok, which is located in the northern part of the Slovak Paradise. From there you walk to the mouth of the gorge following the green sign (Sokol mountain range). Since the ascent is one-way, it is necessary to follow the prescribed direction against the flow of the stream. The route ends at Glacká cesta at an altitude of 899 meters. Tiesňava ends with a beautiful passage through Roth's gorge, which was named after mountaineer Martin Roth. Tiesňava Veľký Sokol belongs to the area protected by the highest level of nature protection in Slovakia, which protects its untouched beauty. Thanks to this, it is home to some of our beasts, protected animals and rare plant species.
