Turniansky hrad
Description of the attraction
On the karst hill above the village of Turnňa nad Bodvou lies the ruins of the Turnian Castle. According to the available historical sources, the year of its construction is 1357. In this year, Turnian Castle was actually only rebuilt and expanded by its then owner, Ján Tornay. According to some researchers, a small castle stood on this site as early as the 12th century and served to protect the road from Gemer to Špiš. Turnian Castle is currently in a desolate state. However, its ruins overgrown with vegetation are still among the most visited places in the area. The ruins of the Turnian Castle can be reached by following the blue tourist sign from the village of Turnňa nad Bodvou. You can also get to the place by following the yellow tourist route from the village of Háj. Both signs lead to the Hradná stráň saddle. It takes approximately 35 minutes to get here from Turne nad Bodvou, 25 minutes from the village of Háj. From the saddle, you only have to cross a short section of less than 10 minutes along an unmarked historical route, on which you will find traces of wagon wheels. The ruins of the Turnian castle stand on a hill, from which there is a nice view of the villages in the valley and the picturesque Hájska dolina. You can also partially see the Zádielská plain, the Jasovská plain and the Dolný vrch plain to the east. When you look around in the southeast direction, you can observe the Košice basin, in the south it is the Turnian basin.
