Description of the attraction
The stone bridge in the city of Poltár — the Turkish bridge, is a historical jewel that is worth admiring. According to word of mouth, the Turks left the bridge here. However, no evidence is available to verify the truth of this claim. The Turkish Bridge is the third oldest preserved bridge of its kind in Slovakia. It was built in the 17th century. It is 35 m long and 5 m wide, its upper edge is located 6 m above the level of the Ipeľ river. This rare technical monument is admired daily not only by locals, but also by visitors to the city. The stone bridge in Poltár served until 2004. However, its technical condition currently does not allow cars to pass through it. The Turkish bridge therefore serves only pedestrian tourists today and needs reconstruction.
