Skalné mesto Dreveník
Description of the attraction
The National Nature Reserve Skalné mesto Dreveník rightly belongs among the unique jewels of Slovak nature. The largest travertine pile in Slovakia is located here. The Dreveník National Nature Reserve will delight you with its impressive view of rock cities and caves, there are also climbing walls. The beauty of the surrounding landscape is certainly worth admiring. The rocky town of Dreveník is 2 kilometers long. A marked tourist and educational trail will lead you to the place from Spišské Podhradia and the village of Žehra. Other travertine mounds Sobotisko, Ostrá hora, Spišský hradný vrch and Sivá brada can be found near the rock town. It became a protected area as early as 1925, and since 1993 it has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The rocky town of Dreveník is divided into two basic parts with the names Hell and Paradise, which say a lot about their character. Hell is a gloomy tangle of rocky passages. Here you will find yourself in the grip of 40 meter high walls. Part of the rocky city of Raj is made up of various towers, where it is tempting to sit on the grass for a while and relax. Among the impressive places is the top platform of Dreveníka, from which you can enjoy a view of the surroundings. You can see the Hornádská basin, the nearby Branisko, Levočské and Volovské vrchy. In addition to the view, you will certainly be interested in the surface karst forms called sinkholes and scrapes.
