The largest Slovak castle — Spiš Castle is also one of the largest castle complexes in Europe. In 1993, this national monument was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. The construction of the Spiš Castle began in the 12th century. Through successive reconstructions over the next 600 years, it acquired its current size. During your visit, you can admire the remains of the castle, the Spiš Museum exposition is also prepared for visitors, which has 4 parts: - Archaeological part — presents a cross-section of the history of the settlement of the castle hill and its surroundings over six millennia. - Castle kitchen - Castle bedroom - Torture room Spiš Castle in the administration of the Spiš Museum. During the year, especially in the main tourist season, it hosts various events and activities for visitors. Spiš Castle is easily accessible by car, you can park in the parking lot below the castle hill. You can also visit it on foot or by bike. Several marked hiking trails and cycle paths from the surrounding villages lead to it. An interesting walk is also offered by the educational trail from Spišské podhradia.
