Slavín
Description of the attraction
Among the landmarks that inseparably belong to our capital, the national cultural monument of Slavín definitely belongs. This monument was unveiled in 1960 on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the liberation of Bratislava. Slavín impresses visitors with its monumental architecture with a seven-meter-high bronze statue of a Soviet soldier. Even though it is sought after by many as a monument, when visiting it you should also think about the fact that it is also a mass grave. There are six mass graves and 278 individual graves in Slavín. A total of 6,845 Red Army soldiers who died during the liberation of Bratislava at the end of the Second World War in April 1945 are buried there. The memorial is part of a well-maintained park from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of Bratislava. That is why Slavín becomes a frequent destination for tourists, cyclists and Bratislava residents during their weekend walks. Commemorative events are held at the memorial every year with the laying of wreaths, where the participants honor the memory of the fallen soldiers.
