Silická ľadnica
Description of the attraction
Looking for a unique way to cool off during the summer heat? Visit the cave. If you are looking for something unique, you are offered the opportunity to enter the abyss of the Silická ľadnica. The Silická ľadnica cave is one of the most important natural locations in the Slovak Karst. It is located on the Silica Plain, about 1.5 km west of the village of Silica. Silická ľadnica is a cave chasm that was created after the ceiling of the cave caved in. Thanks to this, an overhanging rock wall was exposed in this place. Its unique beauty is provided by the year-round ice decoration, which is located in its lower part. The Silicka glacier is 1,100 meters long, while it reaches a depth of 110 meters. To protect its immense natural value, it was declared a national natural monument. Only the part leading along the marked route is accessible to tourists. Outside the sidewalk and the portal terrace, entry is not only prohibited, but also dangerous. Archaeological dating of the settlement of the site of the cave precipice dates back to the Neolithic, Bronze and Late Ages. The yellow tourist route from the village of Silica will take you to the place. You can also go here by following the yellow tourist sign from the Silická jaskyňa parking lot signpost (525 m above sea level). If you would like to treat yourself to a longer trip in one day, the Silická glacier is located near the Babská hora precipice. You can head to it right after the tour.
