Hrad Ostrý kameň
Description of the attraction
Near the village of Buková on the steep promontory of Zárub, the ruins of the Ostrý Kameň castle have been preserved to this day. At an altitude of 576 m above sea level, it peeks out from among the dense forest and offers a beautiful and attractive hike in the bosom of nature of the Lesser Carpathians. The trip is suitable for less fit tourists and children. Ostrý Kameň served in the past as a border castle thanks to its strategic location. It was built to protect the Česká cesta in the 13th century, it was destroyed during the Rákoci uprising. A tourist sign from the village of Buková (approximately 4 km) will take you to Ostrý Kamen. The ascent is easy until the last meters, which are more exposed and require a little better fitness. If you want to treat yourself to a longer and more demanding hike, follow the hiking trail from Smolenice to the top of Zárub. You will also be able to admire other interesting places on this approximately 6 km long route. In order to have enough time, it is advisable to plan it as a full-day trip. From the ridge path, you will also have beautiful views of the ruins of the castle and its surroundings.
