Description of the attraction

The Ponitrian Museum is located in the Neo-Renaissance building, which was built in 1880 and served as the town hall. It is an institution of a local history character, its collections include exhibits from the Nitra region in the fields of botany, zoology, archaeology, history, ethnography and numismatics. The Ponitrian Museum has more than 83,000 items in its collection. It offers visitors 3 permanent exhibitions: - Gems of ancient Slovakia – you will see more than 2,300 archaeological finds from Slovakia dating from the Stone Age to the 18th century. - Nitra in the mirror of history — this exhibition focuses on the cultural and historical development of Nitra from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. A significant part of the exhibition is dedicated to the situation during the Great Moravian Empire. - Life in forest and water biotopes — in this exhibition you can admire the nature of the Nitra region. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the Ponitra Museum prepares more than twenty exhibitions, lectures and talks every year. Visitors can take part in events with demonstrations of handicrafts, folklore or classical music concerts. The Museum in Zlaté Moravcie and the object of folk architecture House of People's Housing in Šala also belong to the management of the museum.
