Description of the attraction
Would you like to know more about how life used to be in Slovakia? The Slovak Village Museum is a unique place that presents folk architecture, living and life of traditional village communities in the 19th and early 20th centuries. You can find it in Martin, in the Jahodnícke háje section. The Slovak Village Museum began to be built in 1967 and was opened to the public in 1972. In one place, you can explore the Slovak regions: Orava, Kysuce, Liptov and, of course, Turiec. Each region has its own a dedicated separate part where you can admire historically valuable construction objects located in a beautiful natural environment. Among the rarest exhibits is the landowner's estate from Vyšné Kubín in the Orava region. In the individual objects, you can also view exhibitions of housing and linen processing. The Slovak Village Museum will allow you to learn about the cultivation of traditional crops, trees, spices, medicinal and magical plants. In the exposition of the Turiec region, the Roman Catholic wooden church from Rudno with an illusory interior decoration has also been moved. The reconstructed part of the street with two homesteads with gable orientation from Hruštín is certainly worth mentioning. In the premises of the Slovak Village Museum, guided tours of folk architecture are held. After finishing, you can enjoy refreshments in a unique pub from the Oravská Polhora. Postcards, small souvenirs, publications and folk art products can be purchased here as a souvenir. The Slovak Village Museum is part of the Slovak National Museum in Martin.
