Melichova skala
Description of the attraction
On the southern edge of the Detva hill, the massive 30 m high Melich cliff catches the eye of visitors. The rock is part of the Poľana mountain range, which is of volcanic origin. Thanks to this, this mountain range offers many possibilities for discovering its natural beauty and secrets. Melichova rock is a rock tower that stands out from the surrounding gentler slopes. It got its name from the owners of the land on which the rampart stands. It once belonged to the Melich family. In 1964, the Melich rock was declared a natural monument. There is also a rumor connected to the cliff, according to which the daughter of the Melich family was petrified on it with a litter on her back. According to legend, she was petrified on her way to a wedding. A blue-marked hiking trail leads to the rock, while the ascent is not difficult at all. The closest you will get to it is from the settlement of Skliarovo (only 1.5 km). Since this interesting place stands out monumentally from the surrounding gentle hills, you can't miss it.
