Košická ZOO

Description of the attraction

Have you already visited the largest zoo in Slovakia? It is the ZOO Košice. It is located in the natural environment of Černá Hora in the Kavečany district and has an area of 288 hectares. Construction began in 1979 and the Košická ZOO opened its doors in 1986. You will find mainly Eurasian fauna in it. Every year, it welcomes many visitors from all corners of Slovakia, and foreign tourists also like to visit it. The zoo in Košice can boast of the largest aviary in Slovakia and the largest brown bear area in Central Europe. In 2002, the breeders were delighted with a unique success, when bear quintuplets were born in it. This achievement is also recorded in the Guinness Book of Records, and two of the cubs live in the Košice Zoo to this day. In addition to them, you can admire more than 240 species of animals here during your visit. Košická ZOO offers various experience programs in addition to animal tours. Attractions for children and adults are, for example, Day with the Zoo Keeper, Night at the Zoo, Offroad and Guided Evening Walking Tour. In the summer, a suburban camp is also organized here. ZOO Košice is open all year round. Transportation is possible by car or public transport.
