Gejzír v Herľanoch
Description of the attraction
Herľany — a village in the east of Slovakia hides great wealth. There is a cold geyser here. The nearest geyser of this type is found only in Iceland, which is why the Herľanský geyser is a European rarity. The Herľany geyser was discovered in 1870, when the administration of the spas in Herľany decided to look for more abundant sources of mineral water. It was activated by a 404.5 meter deep borehole. When drilling, water gushed up to a height of 4 m for up to five minutes. The geyser in Herļany is a unique eruption interval that is the result of the action of carbon dioxide. It accumulates underground through post-volcanic processes in the Slanské vrchy. The periodicity of eruptions is currently around 32 - 36 hours, the water reaches a temperature of around 14 - 18 °C. If you want to see the Herľanský geyser with your own eyes, you can find out about the eruption intervals in advance on the website of the natural monument. The Herļánský geyser gradually weakens, so it may also happen that you may have to wait a little for the planned eruption. However, the subsequent breathtaking view is definitely worth the wait.
