Description of the attraction
The historic forest headland railway is also a part of the Kysucka Village Museum in Nova Bystrica – Vychylovka that is often visited by tourists. This preserved and still functional section of the former Kysucka-Orava forest railway was put into operation for passenger transport in 1995. The Kysucka-Orava forest railway was established in 1926 by joining its Kysucka and Orava sections, which were built in the years 1915 - 1918. Its original operation was terminated at the end of 1971. In 1991 it was given a new name: Historic forest headland railway. After its general repair on the section Kubátkovia - Beskyd, passenger transport was officially allowed. The historic forest headland railway thus became a museum railway. If you visit Kysuce, you can ride it during the seasonal operation in the months of May - October. The historic forest headland railway was declared a national cultural monument of the Slovak Republic in 1991. Its headland system is one of two that have been preserved in Europe until the present day.
