Description of the attraction
The Dunajec gorge, which is located on the border of Slovakia and Poland, attracts many visitors every year. A canyon with a length of approximately 9 km was created here by the Dunajec river, which cuts its way through the Pieniny Mountains. The valley reaches a depth of 200 to 300 m, the river here creates 7 meanders. The gorge of the Dunajec is the most valuable area of the Pieniny National Park in terms of landscape and natural history. A tourist educational trail leads through it, which has 10 stops and describes the natural attractions of the area. You can also cross it on a marked cycle path. Roads connect Červený Kláštor with the village of Lesnica. The Dunajec Gorge hike is not difficult and is one of the most beautiful in Slovakia. Here you will pass many romantic nooks and crannies with which various rumors are associated. For all of them, we will mention the legend of the karst spring Storočna voda, which springs up at the end of the breakthrough and does not freeze in winter. Legend has it that whoever drinks from it will live up to a hundred years.
