Hrad Dobrá Niva

Description of the attraction

Dobroniv Castle is an ornament of the striking Central Slovak village of Dobrá Niva, which is located near the town of Zvolen. It dates from the second half of the 13th century and once served as the center of the royal estate and the guard castle of an important communication artery. It was the Via Magna mentioned in the old documents, which connected the center of the Hungarian kingdom through Zvolen, Liptov and Orava with Poland. Dobronivský Castle enjoyed its glory days until the 18th century. Since then, unfortunately, it only fell into disrepair, and its crumbling walls began to serve as a source of building stone. Today, a corner of the palace with window openings has been preserved and restored from it. You can also admire the two stone consoles that originally supported the bay window. Dobronivský hrad, which is located on a hillock, can be reached from the village of Podzámčok. A pleasant hiking trail with a length of about 20 minutes leads to it.
