Description of the attraction

The Danube Museum in Komárno was founded as the Historical and Archaeological Society of the Komárňa County and the City of Komárno in 1886. It currently has 6 permanent exhibitions, with more than 130,000 objects in its collections. The Danube Museum is housed in several buildings, one of which is Zichy Palace. This building was built at the end of the 17th century, in the past it was used to organize festive events, theater performances and balls. Today you can admire two exhibitions in the premises of the Zichy Palace. One of them — Komárno 1849 – 1945 will guide you through the rich history of the city during this period. The second will introduce you to the lives of two world-famous natives of Komárno, namely the writer Mór Jókai and the music composer Franz Lehár. The exhibition dedicated to their life and work is entitled Prominent natives of Komárno: Mór Jókai and Franz Lehár.
