Description of the attraction

Co-cathedral of St. Mikuláš in Prešov is one of the oldest and most important churches in Slovakia. In the past, it was considered one of the most perfect hall churches in Hungary. It is an admired gem that adorns the historic part of Prešov. Concathedral of St. Mikuláša in Prešov dates back to the 13th century, when the church of the German settlement stood on its site. After several fires, it was restored again and until the time of the uprising of Francis II. Rákoci in 1705 – 1711 it served as a German Evangelical church. From then until now, it belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. The interior of the co-cathedral is just as impressive as the exterior. It originally had 12 Gothic altars, but they were destroyed by fires and religious wars. However, you will also find valuable objects dating back to the first half of the 14th century. You can admire the statue of Christ the Sufferer from the workshop of Master Pavle from Levoča, the sculpture of the Crucified and the sculpture of the Archangel Gabriel. If you like beautiful views, we recommend you to visit the co-cathedral tower. You can admire the wonderful view of the entire city during opening hours for a voluntary contribution of €1. Co-cathedral of St. Mikuláša in Prešov is used today not only for holding regular religious services. You can listen to various concerts here on the more than 300-year-old organ.
