Cave of Dead Bats |

Description of the attraction

The only accessible high mountain cave in Slovakia is located in the central part of the Low Tatras ridge. It is the unique Cave of Dead Bats, which got its name because it is also the largest burial ground for bats in Slovakia. The cave is also among the largest and most important high-mountain caves in Slovakia. The cave of dead bats is fragmented, until today 14 floors with a total length of 19,260 m and a depth of 320 m have been discovered. The largest discovered area of the cave is the Bystrický dome. It is located on 7 levels of the cave at a depth of up to 180 meters. The interesting thing is that it is directly below MR Štefánik's cottage. The cave of dead bats is suitable for visitors with children from 6 years old. The route is slightly more difficult than in other caves. On the way underground, rock walkways and rope trapeze belays await you. If you are one of the more experienced hikers, you can choose the routes named Speleotreking B and C. Both require you to have experience in moving in high mountain terrain, you will also need climbing skills. When visiting the cave along these routes, belaying is required using rope techniques. Dead bat cave is accessible via a marked hiking trail. You can reach it from the Trangoška mountain resort in about 45 minutes.
