Description of the attraction

The baroque-classical monumental Holíč Castle is an interesting place for any history lover. It was built as a Renaissance anti-Turkish fortress, later it was rebuilt in the late Baroque style into a representative summer residence of the Habsburg family. Holíč castle has three floors, the building is surrounded by a massive double defense system of the castle wall and moat. In the past, a large castle park continued behind the moat. However, it was liquidated in 1919. During the tour, you can visit the premises of the City Museum and the gallery. Thanks to the models, you will learn a lot about the historical objects of the city. You can also admire a moving model of a wooden windmill, the original state of the castle and its grounds, churches and chapels. The museum includes a permanent exhibition of crafts, guilds and local folk costumes. You will also see examples of ceramics from Holíč and Habana. Admirers of art will certainly be attracted by the gallery of paintings by non-professional painter Ota Kroup. The tour route continues to the 1st floor to the Chinese Hall and Chapel. The journey through the castle ends in the underground corridors. Holíč Castle also offers the opportunity to walk through the castle garden with an herb garden. You can also visit these separately. In the silence of greenery and near the water surface, you will find an ideal place for relaxation, picnic and rest. There is a playground for children.
