Čachtický hrad

Description of the attraction

Čachtice Castle was among the first castles that secured the western border of Hungary. It was built in the first half of the 13th century and was managed by the castle's royal castellan. This place is especially famous for the legend of the bloodthirsty lady of Čachtice — Alžbeta Bátoriová. The ruins of Čachtice Castle are an excellent location for a family trip. On the site today there are the remains of the buildings that rise on the upper, middle and lower castle. On the fortifications, the remains of the Renaissance style attics have been preserved. On the upper castle, there are even fragments of original plaster with paintings. On the older photos, Čachtice Castle is also with a tower. Unfortunately, only one wall has been preserved from it. The reward for the ascent will not only be a walk around the castle grounds. You can also look around the surroundings from here. You will see the surrounding slopes of the Little Carpathians, the excavations of the Myjava hill and Považský Inovec.
