Hrad Blatnica

Description of the attraction

The ruins of the Blatnica castle are located on one of the hills in the Veľká Fatra mountain range. Blatnica Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century and served as a guard castle on the important Magna Via trade route. When mainly the westward-located communication began to be used, Blatnica Castle lost its importance. For that reason, even the monarchs were not very interested in it. It saw its first expansion only in the second half of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century, when it was owned by the Révay family. Those in the castle built a large forecourt with new buildings. After the uprisings, its importance declined. In 1744 Blatnický Castle was repaired again, in 1790 it was no longer inhabited. From that time on, he slowly let go. The ruins of Blatnica Castle can be accessed in two ways. You can go here on foot from Blatnice, park in the paid parking lot at the end of the village. The road leads along the yellow marked tourist route through Gaderská dolina for about 2 km. Then the yellow sign turns into the forest, where there is a slight ascent. After approximately 20 minutes of walking, you will reach the castle. The entire route takes about 40 minutes. The ruins of Blatnica Castle can be visited even with the smallest children. You can reach it with a stroller via an alternative route. You start on the road through the Gaderská dolina following the yellow sign, but you do not turn into the forest, you continue along the asphalt road for approximately 1 km. When you pass the furnace, after a few meters you turn left. After approximately 450 m you reach the Pod hradom cottage and from there all the way up.
