Bazilika Panny Márie
Description of the attraction
In 1736, according to the plans of Matej Vépi, the monks of St. Paul - the Paulines began to build the Basilica of Our Lady of the Seven-Seventh in Šaštín and the adjacent monastery. Today it is a sought-after place where famous pilgrimages are held for the Feast of the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Throughout the year and especially during pilgrimages, the basilica is visited by several tens of thousands of domestic and foreign pilgrims. The basilica is closely related to the Late Gothic one with the statue of the Virgin Mary of Sorrows by an unknown author, who created it in 1564. In 1732, archbishop Imrich Esterházy authorized its worship.
